May 31, 2003 issue of the British Medical Journal
06/02/2003
The article focuses on the relationship between doctors and the drug industry. Relevant articles appear in several journal sections including This Week in the BMJ, Editorials, News, Education and Debate, Papers, Clinical Review, Reviews, and Career Focus. While most of the articles look at Britain's current medical environment, the parallels with the current U. S. situation are noteworthy. Ray Moynihan offers a two-part article titled "Who pays for the pizza? Redefining the relationships between doctors and drug companies. 1: Entanglement and 2: Disentanglement". Mr. Moynihan offers more thoughts on "Drug company sponsorship of education could be replaced at a fraction of its cost" (discussing CME in the U.S. with comments by Dr. Murray Kopelow). Also see the article by Brigden et al "Continuing professional development: choosing the right activity".
